Why NOT to use Antibacterial Soaps?




As a community we tend to overuse antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers. What is wrong with them?

The antimicrobial chemical triclosan in antibacterial soaps is believed to disrupt thyroid function and hormone levels in people; when it mixes into waste water, it can cause sex changes in aquatic life. And health experts believe that overuse of this and other antibacterial chemicals is promoting the growth of bacteria that are resistant to antibacterial treatment.

Better alternative: Good old-fashioned soap and warm water will kill just as many germs, studies have shown. If you must use a hand sanitizer, pick one that’s alcohol-based and doesn’t list triclosan or other chemicals on its label.

WATER

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated..
(Likely applies to half the world population)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

#5. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

COKE

#1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china.

#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle.. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean engines of the trucks for about 20 years! Now the question is, would you like a glass of water? or Coke?

Are You Hydrated?



Are you drinking enough water? You'd be surprised how easy it is to get dehydrated.

Which States are the Fattest?



Obesity Rates are exploding in the USA! Sad, but true.
20 years ago not a single state had an obesity rate over 15%. Now ALL 50 states are over that!

Mississippi, where 34.4 percent of the people are obese, has the highest obesity rate. Other states with obesity rates above 30 percent include: Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia. Thirty-eight other states have obesity rates above 25 percent.

Other highlights of the report include:

The number of adults who do not exercise rose across 14 states.
Obesity among men is up in nine states, but dropped for women in Nevada.
Obesity prevalence varies with education and income. The least educated and the poorest had the highest rates of obesity; college graduates had the lowest.

For the second year in a row, obesity rates rose in Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Missouri, Rhode Island and Texas.

And, for the third year straight, more residents of Florida, Kansas, Maine, Oklahoma and Vermont tipped the scale toward obesity.

Colorado, with an obesity rate of 19.8 percent, is the only state where the rate is less than 20 percent, the investigators found.

Bottom line--- We all need to eat less and exercise more. We need to learn to reach for healthier, nutrition packed food instead of junk food. It is not too late to make a change so we can change these obesity statistics.

10 Tips to Help you Sleep Better

1)      Exercise--- 30 minutes 4 times per week will improve sleep quality.
2)      Cherries---  This fruit is rich in melatonin which helps the body regulate the sleep cycle.
3)      Same Time Ritual--- Try to go to bed at the same time every night.
4)      Chill Out ---- A cool bedroom lowers your core body temperature, which initiates sleepiness.
5)      Relax--- A warm bath with lavender or rose oil will calm the nerves, and raise your body temperature to help you fall asleep faster.
6)      Sheet Quality --- Choose sheets that you love. Crisp and cool, go with percale. Prefer soft and cozy?  Then go with sateen or flannel.  A long lasting linen is an Egyptian cotton.
7)      Lights off--- Turn off the TV or computer. Face the alarm clock away from you so you don’t see the time during the night and then start thinking of the day ahead.
8)      Sleep Sideways--- Snoring, besides bothering a partner, can wake you up. Airways are most blocked when on your back, so sleep on your side.
9)      Cut Coffee—Cut out coffee or other caffeine by 2 pm. It may be difficult to cut out caffeine when you hit your afternoon slump, but take a walk or drink a glass of water instead.
10)   Mattress—Choose the mattress that is not too hard or too soft.  Flip and rotate your mattress every few months to avoid lumps or sags.

Are Children being Over Medicated?

 Millions of kids are taking prescription medications...and the drug industry loves it!

Since 2001, high blood pressure meds for kids have risen 17 percent, respiratory meds 42 percent, diabetes meds 150 percent and heartburn/GERD meds 147 %. Fifty percent of pediatricians also prescribe kids insomnia drugs according to an article in the journal Pediatrics.

In fact, 25 percent of children and 30 percent of adolescents now take at least one prescription for a chronic condition says Medco, the nation's largest pharmacy benefit manager, making the kid prescription market four times as strong as the adult in 2009.

Consider statins like Lipitor, the world's top selling medication, which was approved for U.S. children in 2008 and recently in a chewable form in Europe. In addition to known risks of liver dysfunction, acute kidney failure, cataracts and muscle damage, they can enable bad eating.
"Plenty of adults down statins regularly and shine off healthy eating because they know a cheeseburger and steak can't fool a statin," writes Dr. Michael Brus of the Huntington Post. "Imagine a 10-year-old who loves his fast food and who knows he can get away with it if he pops his pills."

And then there's GERD in babies.

Even though the approximately 71 times a day that babies spit-up is considered perfectly normal and does not damage the esophagus, the number of GERD prescriptions for babies has recently quadrupled writes pediatrician Darshak Sanghavi. The drugs don't treat baby reflux but they "may increase brain bleeds and gut damage in preterm infants as well as the risk of food allergies in older infants," says Dr. Sanghavi, author of the bestselling book "A Map of the Child" Oops.

Why are so many meds targeted to the child patient?

"Children are known to be compliant patients and that makes them a highly desirable market for drugs," says former Pharma rep Gwen Olsen author of "Confessions of an Rx Drug Pusher." "Children are forced by school personnel to take their drugs, they are forced by their parents to take their drugs, and they are forced by their doctors to take their drugs. So, children are the ideal patient-type because they represent refilled prescription compliance and 'longevity.' In other words, they will be lifelong patients and repeat customers for Pharma."

Germs! Where are they Lurking?

 Greetings!
This is a topic most of us would rather not talk about.  But, it is always better to have some knowledge and use some prevention tools to keep us healthy.  So let's talk about GERMS.

An average adult can touch as many as 30 objects within a minute, including germ-harboring, high-traffic surfaces such as light switches, doorknobs, phone receivers, and remote controls. At home, you do all that you can to keep the germs at bay. But what happens when you step out the door to go to dinner, do some grocery shopping, or visit the doctor's office? Know where germs are most likely to lurk, as you'll find out here.
 
One place I have never thought much of was 'the Restaurant Menu'.
Have you ever seen anyone wash off a menu? Probably not. A recent study in the Journal of Medical Virology reported that cold and flu viruses can survive for 18 hours on hard surfaces. If it's a popular restaurant, hundreds of people could be handling the menus--and passing their germs on to you. Never let a menu touch your plate or silverware, and wash your hands after you place your order.

Why Artificial Sweetners are NOT a Dieter's Friend?

On of the biggest marketing and PR tactics for man-made chemical sweeteners has been the claim that they help in the battle against obesity. Folks, they don't.
They never have and they never will.
 One reason for aspartame and neotame's potential to cause weight gain is because phenylalanine and aspartic acid – the two amino acids that make up 90 percent of aspartame and are also present in neotame -- are known to rapidly stimulate the release of insulin and leptin; two hormones that are intricately involved with satiety and fat storage.
 Insulin and leptin are also the primary hormones that regulate your metabolism.
So although you're not ingesting calories in the form of sugar, aspartame and neotame can still raise your insulin and leptin levels. Elevated insulin and leptin levels, in turn, are two of the driving forces behind obesity, diabetes, and a number of our current chronic disease epidemics.
 Over time, if your body is exposed to too much leptin, it will become resistant to it, just as your body can become resistant to insulin, and once that happens, your body can no longer "hear" the hormonal messages instructing your body to stop eating, burn fat, and maintain good sensitivity to sweet tastes in your taste buds.

12 Tips for Stepping into a Healthier Year

Here are some basic steps to get you back on track for good health this year:
1. Go alcohol free for 2 weeks.
2. First thing in the morning, start each day with a glass of room temperature / warm water with either: a) the juice of half a lemon in it or b) 2 teaspoons of raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar. This is great for boosting liver function. It is very alkalizing!
3. Eat plenty of fresh veggies, especially loads of green ones – a combination raw and lightly cooked is best.
4. Beetroot (roasted, grated into salads, juiced) and beetroot leaves – great for liver support.
5. Good quality meats – organic, grass fed, free range or wild. Beef, chicken, lamb etc. No processed deli meats (high in preservatives, flavors etc.)
6. Wild caught smaller fish (as opposed to contaminated farmed fish. Ask your fish supplier where they get their fish from – Ocean? River? Farm?). Avoid large fish such as tuna, swordfish, ling, marlin as these are startlingly high in mercury.
7. If you’re in a colder climate, now id the perfect time for some warming soups – such as chicken and vegetable. Mmm…
8. In the southern hemisphere, now is the time to get into the very high antioxidant containing, low glycaemic index super fruits of summer: cherries and berries – blue, black, mulberries, raspberries.
9. Drink plenty of clean fresh water – filtered or spring water. 2L per day. Herb teas count. Black, green and white tea don’t count. Herb teas which are particularly detoxifying include: dandelion leaf (for kidney detox) and dandelion root (for liver detox), burdock, calendula, fenugreek.
10. 1 cup of green tea each day
11. Go coffee and dairy free for 1-2 weeks.
12. Go sugar free (use xylitol or stevia instead to sweeten drinks or for cooking). Sugar is our number one ager and cause of all modern degenerative diseases.
Even if you do half of the things on this list you’ll be off to a great start to feeling better and looking better!
