The Night Before Christmas--Diet Version

'Twas the Night Before Chrismas---Diet Version

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared.
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt --
I said to myself, as I only can "You can't spend a winter
disguised as a man!"
So--Away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip!
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
'Til all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie.
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore--
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a Good Diet!

Of course, if you really want to lose weight after the holidays, the easiest way is Visi!
The natural, one a day capsule, that suppresses your appetite yet gives you energy (not the jitters)

8 Reasons to Drink More Water

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

(Likely applies to half the world population)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain or up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8.. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water you should drink every day?

These all sound like good reasons to drink more WATER.  Sodas and coffee do not help the body like water....so drink up!!

Same Time Ritual--- Try to go to bed at the same time every night.

Helping Your Eyes with Kangen Water

I recently discovered this article from an Eye Doctor who explained how to use Kangen Water to improve the eyes. Macular Degeneration, Chronic Dry Eyes, Pink Eye...can all be helped with Kangen Ionized Water.  Here is the article--

KANGEN WATER AND EYE HEALTH
Dr Nhung Brandenburg

Dr. Nhung Brandenburg received her Doctor of Optometry degree
from the Southern College of Optometry in 1997, where she
graduated magna cum laude, and her Bachelor of Science degree
from the University of Central Florida. After graduation, she joined
a surgical practice where she managed a variety of ocular diseases
and provided pre and post-operative care for cataract, glaucoma
and refractive surgery patients. Dr. Brandenburg has extensive
experience in the treatment of eye disease, red eyes, injuries and
specialty contact lenses (including hard-to-fit bifocal and corneal
refractive therapy).

Excerpts from a video testimony of her experiences with Kangen
ionized water.

When Dr. Nhung first tried the Kangen ionized water, she did so
because of her husband’s health problems. He suffered from
severe migraine headaches, high blood pressure, high cholesterol,
and acid reflux. After a month on the Kangen ionized water, he
went to his doctor for a check up and found that he had lost
weight, his cholesterol numbers were lower, and his blood pressure
was down almost 50 points. He also had no more problems with
acid reflux and migraine headaches.

Dr. Nhung said she was already very healthy, but after drinking the
Kangen water her energy levels improved greatly and helped her at
work with her demanding schedule and being constantly on her
feet going from room to room to see her patients.

Dr. Nhung sees patients of all ages who have diabetes and high
blood pressure. Because of the diabetes they need to have
medical eye exams to check on signs of bleeding and leakage in
the back of the eye. She said that her patients who drank the
Kangen ionized water saw reduced blood sugar levels after only
two weeks and some it took two months. Their doctors reduced
their insulin because of that. These patients saw less signs of dayto-
day fluctuating vision and their night vision was improved. She
said that overall their vision was more stable from day to day.
Dr. Nhung also believes the Kangen ionized water can help eye
health in many other ways because of its unique properties to
eliminate waste, enhance metabolism and hydrate the eye.
She says: “ Kangen waters unique properties is a huge
enhancement to eye health. Especially with dry eyes, Macular
Degeneration, and Glaucoma.

Dry eye patients reported a reduced need for artificial tears or
prescribed medications for dry eyes when they drank the Kangen
ionized water. Also, stys were resolved quickly when using the
Kangen strong acidic 2.5 pH water in the eye.

(My Note: I personally have used the 2.5 pH Kangen ionized water
in my eyes when I had pink eye and it took care of it in less than 24
hours because it has the ability to kill all bacteria, fungus and virus
on contact.)

Dr. Nhung also stated: “This water also reduces puffiness of skin
around eyelids as well as the sunken look of the eye socket when
eyes become dehydrated. Because of Kangen ionized water’s
antioxidant, it has great potential for help inside the eye, especially
with Macular Degeneration. The center part of the eye breaks
down as we age and cannot remove waste products well; these
wastes sit on the retina and cause bleeding, scar formation and
potential blind spots and central blindness. Research has proven
that people with Macular Degeneration can stabilize or slow down
this disease with antioxidants and may not lose their vision.
Because Kangen ionized water has around 8 to 10 times more
antioxidant value than most it can be used as an adjunct to
increase antioxidant levels and help eliminate waste from the
macula and can potentially improve the vision of someone with
Macular Degeneration.”

Regarding Diabetes and Glaucoma, Dr. Nhung states: “Glaucoma
is related to blood flow to the eye. Kangen ionized water has the
ability to enhance blood flow to the back of the eye and also
improve circulation. Diabetes is also related to blood flow.”
“In my opinion, Kangen ionized water has a great deal of potential
to help people with eye health problems. I have been
recommending it to patients because of its unique characteristics
to reduce inflammation and to increase blood flow and thereby
enhance their lives”

Best Fruits to Eat?

Eating whole fruits is better than drinking juice. If you should drink juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look! Here are some of the healthiest fruits--

KIWI:
Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE:
An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY:
Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals. h

ORANGE :
Sweetest medicine. Eating 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON:
Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene — the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA:
Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

Enjoy your fruits!

How to Get Kids to Eat Healthy Foods

Here are some Great Tips on 'How to Get Kids to Eat Healthy Foods'--
(It is all about being a little creative!)

Getting Kids to eat good food and veggies--

- Hide Pumpkin, Sweet Potato and/or carrot in Spaghetti Bolognaise. Boil the veggies, then puree them and mixed them in with the sauce.

- Puree the Veggies in a Quiche

- Make meal time fun. Create pictures with the food, make a face and draw a mouth and eyes

- Get a Cookie Cutter and make shapes out of mashed vegetables.

- Do not offer bribes by saying "if you eat your peas, you can then have sweets or ice cream" You are planting the seed here that Peas are bad and Sweets and Ice Cream are good.

- Do not offer them something else if they don't eat what you give them, they will learn that meal time is meal time.

- Don't chase them around the house trying to get them to eat one more spoon full.

- Have some sliced fruit for snacks.

- In most Supermarkets in the Health Food Isle, you will find Pasta made out of corn in shapes for kids. This is a healthy pasta option.

-Show them that you enjoy these foods by eating them often yourself.

- Finally as they get a little older, encourage them to assist in the kitchen in the cooking process and eat the food that they create themselves.

Have Fun...

Do you Clean with Bleach?

This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's Wife), and I want to share  it with you.

Her husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, And most
doctors don't tell you about peroxide. Have you ever smelled bleach in
a doctor's office? NO!!!

Why? because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask the nurses who work
in the doctor's offices, and ask them if they use bleach at home. They
are wiser and know better!

Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40's? It's chlorine,
folks! And it is deadly!  Peroxide was invented during WWI in the 20's. It was used twofold.  It could be used to kill in mustard gas or it can be used to help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals.

Please think about this:
1. Take one capful of Peroxide (the little white cap that comes with the bottle)
and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it
when I bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter
without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash.

2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of
germs.

3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and
leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe,
or spray it on the counters.

4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to
kill salmonella and other bacteria.

5. Fungus on your feet? Spray a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.

6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. Gangrene that would not heal with any medicine can be healed by
soaking in peroxide.

7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and Water and
keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic
system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.

8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture
whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to
kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into
a tissue.

9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right
away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten
minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.

10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the
50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You
will not have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages
but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, reddish, or
dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually, so it's not a drastic change.

11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help get rid of
boils, fungus, or other skin infections.

12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of
whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing,
pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub
it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.

13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is
why I love it so much for this.

14. Another place it's great is in the bathroom, if someone has been
careless & has wet on the floor around the toilet & it's begun to smell
of urine. Just put some peroxide in a spray bottle & spray. In the
blink of any eye all the smell will be gone & the bacteria eliminated!

I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be
without! With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way
to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner! ' This
information really woke me up. I hope you gain something from it, too.

Of course, I own a Kangen Water machine and can use the Strong Water from it to do all the above things for cleaning and sanitizing.  But if you don't have a unit yet, then go get some Peroxide.  Save money...and better for your health than breathing bleach! The Wetter Water

Dangers in your Kid's Foods

This is a great article written by Christine Farlow that I wanted to share with you!

Many additives in the food you feed your kids may be very dangerous to their health. But you'd never know it if you believed the claims of healthy ingredients on the packaging.

Take, for example, breakfast cereals. They are laden with sugar, hydrogenated oils and artificial food colorings. Sugar can cause hyperactivity, fatigue, depression, tooth decay, B-vitamin deficiency and indigestion. Hydrogenated oils are associated with heart disease, cancer and elevated cholesterol. These diseases, associated with old age, actually can start in childhood when kids eat hydrogenated oils and other foods that contribute to these diseases. Artificial food colorings are some of the worst additives found in foods and are most abundantly found in foods made to appeal to kids, like cereals, candy, gelatin desserts, fruit drinks and soft drinks. The worst are Blue No. 1, Blue No. 2, Citrus Red No. 2, Green No. 3, Red No. 3 and Yellow No. 6. Some of these colors are carcinogenic, cause tumors in lab animals and are not adequately tested.

If your child has asthma, eating raisins, dried apricots or some other dried fruit that contains sulfites may cause her attacks. Sulfites were banned in 1985 on most fruits and vegetables, but are still allowed on fresh-cut potatoes, dried fruits and wine. They can cause severe allergic reactions and have even caused death in asthmatics.

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) and free glutamate are flavor enhancers considered safe by the FDA. MSG may cause a variety of symptoms, including headaches, itching, high blood pressure and allergic reactions. Free glutamate, the active ingredient in MSG, may cause dizziness, shortness of breath, headaches, drowsiness and even brain damage, especially in children. Because of bad publicity, food manufacturers found ways to hide MSG in foods they produce. They list the ingredients that contain MSG but not the MSG itself. Or they use free glutamates instead of MSG. For example, broth may be listed as an ingredient on a label. Broth may contain MSG, but the ingredients in the broth are not required to be listed on the label. Hydrolyzed soy protein, a common ingredient in tuna, is high in free glutamates, but does not contain MSG. The label can legally say no MSG.

Even if the label says "all natural ingredients" and "no preservatives," the product could contain harmful additives. Almost all packaged foods, even so called "health foods", have additives in them, and many are harmful or inadequately tested. The manufacturer hopes you'll think these are healthy natural products, but if you read the list of ingredients, you'll find ingredients that are not common food items. If you learn to interpret food labels, you'll find that many of these ingredients are harmful or of questionable safety.

So, how do you know which foods are really safe to eat? Dr. Christine Farlow, in her handy pocket-sized book, FOOD ADDITIVES: A Shopper's Guide To What's Safe & What's Not, now in its 2004 revised edition, makes it easy to identify which additives are harmful and which are not. She classifies over 800 commonly used food additives according to safety, whether they may cause allergic reactions and if they are Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the FDA. In just seconds, the average person can find out if an additive in the food they're buying is harmful to their health. It's clear, concise and easy to use. Make this book your constant grocery shopping companion and you'll never again wonder about the safety of the ingredients listed on the package. You'll know.
