Halloween Pet Dangers

Greetings....

I wanted to share this article with you about Pet Safety at Halloween time. Enjoy!

Halloween Pet Dangers
By Melissa Breyer

It’s easy to want to involve our pets in all of the action and excitement of our lives; but it’s not always so great for our pets. Consider Halloween. Consider it from a pet’s perspective, to be specific–the doorbell ringing over and over, a parade of yelling sugar-fueled “creatures” behind the door, chocolate to find, decorations to get tangled up in, and how about the dreaded pet costume?! (I know some pets don’t mind costumes, but I just keep thinking of my daughters’ dog Winkie and his look of misery when the doggie witch costume first appeared.) It’s important to keep your pets safe this Halloween by thinking around the holiday excitement, and being aware of the little catastrophes lurking in the evening. Here’s a round-up of tips from animal protection groups compiled by consumeraffairs.org:

>Don’t give Halloween candy to dogs and cats. Candy can be harmful to pets and chocolate is toxic to dogs, cats, and ferrets. Candies that have the artificial sweetener xylitol can also be poisonous to dogs–even small amounts can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar and lead to depression, lack of coordination and seizures. Symptoms of chocolate ingestion can include vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, and increased thirst, urination and heart rate, and even seizures.

>Avoid putting costumes on pets. Many dogs and cats don’t like costumes, and some can confine or restrict their movements. If you do dress up your pet, make sure the costume doesn’t impair their movement, hearing, sight or ability to breathe or bark. Also check the costume for any choking hazards. A safer alternative is a simple Halloween bandanna.

>Keep pets inside and away from the front door and trick-or-treaters. “Halloween brings a flurry of activity with visitors constantly arriving at the door, and pets may escape the safety of their home, said Gail Buchwald, senior vice president of the ASPCA Pet Adoption Center in Manhattan. “Be sure that your pet has identification tags should he or she accidentally get loose.” And remember cats–especially black ones–often fall victim to pranksters.

>Keep candy wrappers away from pets. Cats love to play with candy wrappers, animal experts say–and many cats love to eat strange things. But if cats ingest aluminum foil or cellophane it can cause intestinal blockage and induce vomiting.

>Keep Halloween decorations away from pets. Dogs and cats can easily knock over a jack-o’-lanterns and start a fire. And curious kittens are particularly at risk of getting burned by candle flames. Keep dangling decorations in high places to avoid choking hazards. Wires and cords from holiday decorations also pose a danger to pets. If chewed, a wire can damage your pet’s mouth from shards of glass or plastic or give them a potentially lethal electrical shock.

>Use fake cobwebs sparingly on trees and bushes. They can pose a risk to pets and small birds can easily become entangled in the webbing.

Have a safe and healthy Halloween!

10 Tips for Fall Cleaning & Better Breathing!

(I wanted to share this article with you...)

10 Tips for Fall Cleaning a Healthy Home

By Annie B. Bond

It’s that time again–windows close with a thump, the furnace clicks on, and next thing you know, you’re living in a hotbed of pollution that could rival the smog in L.A.

Here are 10 easy, simple things you can do to keep the air quality pure and safe in your house this autumn.

1. Empty your refrigerator tray. It can start looking pretty swampy in there, and the ‘fridge fan blows that moldy yucky air right into your home.
2. Dust your heaters. When the heat comes on, it isn’t good to smell fried dust.
3. Check for foreign objects in your heating elements. Anyone with small children knows that plastic objects can find their way into the heating units and next thing you know, everyone is sniffing and wondering, “Why does it smell like burning plastic in here?” Toxic!
4. Clean your oil burner. A dirty furnace doesn’t function as well and can emit more harmful carbon monoxide and other undesirable compounds.
5. Clean chimneys. Prevent chimney fires and carbon monoxide buildup in your home.
6. Devise a compost system. When the windows stay closed, molds in the air from fermenting compost can become a problem. Be sure to empty your kitchen compost every day.
7. Be alert to outgassing. New products and activities like painting will have more of an effect on your indoor air quality now that the windows are closed. You may want to air new carpets or upholstered furniture before putting them in your house. If you’re painting, be sure to provide plenty of ventilation, and choose non-toxic paints.
8. Steam-clean your carpets. Get rid of dust, dust-mites and other noxious things so you won’t be inhaling them with every step you take.
9. Choose your candles wisely. Petroleum-based and lead-wick candles contribute significantly to dangerous levels of indoor air pollution. Buy (or make) candles made from beeswax, soy, or vegetable oils, lead-free wicks, and pure essential-oil fragrances.
10. NO kerosene space heaters, ever! They are lethal. If you need extra heat in a room, consider one of the free-standing electric heaters filled with oil that radiate clean heat.

What to Look for in a Water Ionizer?

Greetings....

There are a number of websites on the web in regards to alkaline water or Kangen water™. Many of these websites tend to misguide or mislead when it comes to Enagic and the ionizers they produce. Many of these claims are simply not true or are deceptive by design in an attempt to drive the market to buy their products.

In an attempt to justify of why I believe the SD501 is the best residential water ionizer on the market, I have placed the facts regarding this product as well as the company on this page. The reason I choose to lay out the facts regarding this ionizer, was my attempt to justify the relatively high price of $3,980 (USD) as well as to address some of the attacks coming from other dealers who represent other ionizers.

Click below to see some bullet point truths about Enagic and The SD-501.

Bottled Water Dilemma

Greetings!

Hopefully if you’re at this site and reading this you are well aware of the alternatives to using disposable bottles and recycle the ones you do. The advent of bottled water sent our already wasteful consumer culture into pollution overdrive and it’s a tremendous task to put the brakes on the momentum of this waste. Here is a list of plastic bottle fun facts that put the magnitude of this pollution into scope.

* Plastic bottles take 700 years to begin composting
* 90% of the cost of bottled water is due to the bottle itself
* 80% of plastic bottles are not recycled
* 38 million plastic bottles go to the dump per year in America from bottled water (not including soda)
* 24 million gallons of oil are needed to produce a billion plastic bottles
* The average American consumes 167 bottles of water a year
* Bottling and shipping water is the least energy efficient method ever used to supply water
* Bottled water is the second most popular beverage in the United States

Although it can be easy and convenient to pick up bottle beverage products the end cost to the environment is staggering. So be mindful when you drink…and remember, friends don’t let friends drink from disposables!

What is the Quality of your Favorite Water?

Greetings!

Drink plenty of water, but avoid bottled water when you can. It pollutes the environment and is often bottled from tap water. When you must, choose from brands with clear labeling and advanced treatment.

Only 2 bottled waters disclose water sources and treatment methods on their labels and offer a recent water quality test report on their websites. None of the top 10 U.S. domestic bottled water brands label specific water sources and treatment methods for all their products.

One of my favorite brands in the past had been Ice Mountain. After scoring it with this scorecard system I found it is not purified and uses no advanced treatments for cleaning or safety. It's overall score was a D. Not good...not good at all!

Go to this webpage and check out your favorite water brands. Find out if it is truly just another tap water in a plastic bottle or if it is really treated and purified like it should be.

Allergy Proof your House

Allergy-Proof Your Home

From bathroom to kitchen to bedroom, here are some simple steps to rid your home of the stuff that makes you sick.

Whole Home Tips....
1) Adjust the humidity in your home to around 30-40%. You can get a humidity gauge at home-improvement stores.
2) Change your furnace filter every month to help keep the air moving cleanly in your home.
3) Invest in a quality air purfier that will help reduce particulates in the air. http://www.healthy-environments.com/air-purifiers.asp

Bedroom Tips....
1) Wash you bedding weekly in hot water...at least 130 degrees. Turn up the water heater for the job and then back down when finished.
2) Mattress and pillow covers will help reduce dust mite waste, which is a major cause of allergies and asthma flare-ups.

Living Room Tips....
1) Vacuum regularly, especially with a model with a Hepa filter or double-layer bag.
2) Keep pets off the furniture as much as possible. Try to wash pets weekly if possible.

Bathroom Tips....
1) Scrub the corners of your shower or tub weekly. No need to use bleach or other toxic chemicals. Many environmentally safe cleaners will kill bacteria and viruses.
Check out these at http://www.healthy-environments.com/safe-cleaning-products.asp
2) Easy to clean bathroom floors are the best. Clean mats in hot water weekly and make sure they dry out between uses.

Kitchen Tips....
1) Clean and sweep around the stove, refrigerator and toaster, where crumbs tend to gather. Don't leave dishes in the sink. Keep all food sealed tight.
2) Caulk areas where pests can come in walls, windows and floor cracks. Bugs and cockroaches can add to poor air quality.

4 Organic Food Labels you should Know!

There are 4 organic food labels you should know when you buy 'organic'.

This the most important label you should see when you get organic foods.
The USDA Organic seal is your best assurance of organic quality, and it's the international gold standard for organic personal care. Where personal care products are concerned, if you don’t see the USDA Certified Organic seal, the word “organic” doesn’t mean a thing. It must specify USDA to be meaningful. The ingredients in USDA certified beauty products are certified organic for food, adhering to much stricter standards as they are intended specifically for human consumption.

Growers and manufacturers of organic products bearing the USDA seal have to meet the strictest standards of any of the currently available organic labels.

There are 3 other organic labels in which it shows the food is at least 95% pure. Be sure and take a look at them here... Organic Labels

So...next time you are at the store to buy Organic Foods, check the labels! Maybe now you know what they mean.

August is Water Quality Month

Welcome to Water Quality Month!

We've been drinking clean or purified water for years now. I have always believed that tap water should not be considered 'clean' since there are so many chemicals added to kill the bacteria and contaminants. Chlorine is used to kill the harmful bacteria...and that's good...but I don't want to drink the chlorine! Thank you very much.
A year ago I was introduced to Kangen Water made by Enagic and I suddenly learned I didn't know as much about water as I thought I had. My purified water was clean but wasn't all that healthy for me or my family. It wasn't hydrating my body or flushing toxins from my cells. Kangen Water works at the cellular level and is considered to be the wetter water! Super hydrating. I have more energy now and just feel younger. My aches and pains have gone away, making me feel younger.
So...if you haven't tried Kangen Water, you really should.
If you haven't seen a Kangen Water Demo, you really should.
I will be having an interactive Water Demo at the Aug. 10th QBS meeting in Grayslake, IL (University Center) at 2:00 ...if you live in the area, have a business you'd like to promote to the group...then please join us and you'll get a chance to learn about this amazing water.

If you don't live in the area then please check out this site for more info on how Kangen Water can change your life for the better!

Rate your Bottled Water?

America drinks more bottled water than any other country in the world. Two facts arise from this statistic.
1- We create more problems with the environment with all these plastic bottles. 2- We still are the most dehydrated country in the world.

Why?
Plastic bottles take decades to decompose...definitely not 'earth-friendly.'
Most bottled waters are not healthy. They are acidic waters and not always purified as well as we think.

How do you rate your favorite bottled water?
This site analyzes hundreds of bottled waters as to whether they are purified by acceptable standards. How healthy is your water?
Check it out at... Bottled Water Standards

It is pretty interesting. Of course, if you want the healthiest water available...that you can bottle yourself from your own sink using an Enagic machine...then you want this water--- Kangen Water.

Let me know if you'd like to try Kangen Water. We have a terrific sharing program...people with Enagic units who share Kangen Water with others.

Just let me know.

Thanks.

Laughter is the Best Medicine

Greetings!

All of us experience stress...some more than others. Laughter is one way to reduce stress. If we laughed more often we'd have less health issues. As I have pointed out in earlier posts, stress causes our body to be acidic and disease loves an acidic body. Our body wants to be more alkaline...disease can't live in an alkaline state. No matter how great your diet is, if you get stressed, you become acidic.

Here is a great article on how to keep laughter in your life.
Laughter is the Best Medicine

And, now the real test...
Can you make it through this short video without laughing?

Choosing the Best Water Ionizer

Now that I have been promoting Kangen Water for a year, I have learned that most people who love this water wonder if they can find another unit that does the SAME thing yet cost a lot less.

My answer to this is NO.

Yes...there are other water ionizers that create alkaline water.
Yes...there are other water ionizers that are half the price of Kangen units.

The Enagic Unit is the 'Gold-Standard' of water ionizers. Yes...you will have to pay more than with other units, but you are getting TOP quality and workmanship. You are getting a unit designed to last 15 yrs. or more...with the same quality water being made as the first day you got the unit. Other units do not have this workmanship and quality alkaline water will degrade with time. Not so with an Enagic unit...a 35 yr. old company!

If you want to see what to look for in a quality water ionizer then go to this site-- What is a Quality Water Ionizer?

We LOVE Kangen Water and have seen many health benefits...not just in our family, but those we have shared it with.

So, before you complain about the price, understand the real value of HEALTH with a high quality Alkaline, micro-clustered, anti-oxidant water!

Comparing other Ionizers to Kangen Water--

I LOVE my Kangen Water!
However, the first thing people ask is, "How much does it cost?"
Is it expensive? Yes.
But how important is you & your families health for the next 20 years or so? This Kangen Water unit is designed to run for 15 years and can then be refurbished for another 15! Wow....
I have never seen another product that has so many health benefits and is made to last so long. When you break it down in cost, it is about 75 cents per day!

Fight Mosquitos Naturally!

It has been raining and raining in the Chicagoland area lately. One of these days the clouds will move out and the sun will reappear. Along with the sun, mosquitos will be on the move for food...US!

DEET is a chemical that works well on repelling mosquitos. However, our skin is the largest organ we have. DEET will absorb into the skin and into our blood stream. Again...it is a very strong, dangerous chemical. So, you might want to reconsider lathering it on yourself or your loved ones.

Here are some natural ways to repell mosquitos! TIPS!! Try them and see how they work.

What's Wrong with Soda Pop?

Greetings...

It's Memorial Day Weekend as I write this and realize it is the unofficial first weekend of Summer! School will be ending soon, the weather will be more predictably warm and summer activities will begin. As we soon head to a family picnic I remember the days we used to fill the coolers with soda and drinks for all to enjoy. Those days have ended, at least in this house.

Since we began drinking Kangen Water(ionized, alkaline water)almost a year ago, we learned how bad Soda and Sport drinks are for your body. It takes almost 30 glasses of Kangen Water to correct the damage of the acid one glass of Soda or Gatorade. I no longer purchase these drinks and feel better about it. We made a healthy choice. If you haven't seen the videos about Kangen Water then you should be sure to look at this....

There are more reasons you should never drink soda or pop again. Here is a good article on The Dangers of Soda Pop.

Happy Memorial Day...and remember all those that fought for our country for us! Thanks!

Final Days to Save on Air Purifiers---

Greetings!

If you ever thought of how nice it'd be to have fresh, clean air in your bedroom, your child's dorm room, or even the entire house, then you better take advantage of the 25% off all Air Oasis purifiers on sale until May 1st.

My son has one in his dorm room at Mizzou and has been healthy all year while the rest of the guys in his frat house have had the flu or mono. Plus, his room doesn't have a window so it just keeps the room smelling fresh...not always an easy task with 2 college guys sharing a room the size of a large closet. (His room is definitely NOT clean...but at least the air is!)

I still offer a 60 day guarantee...so you can try it and if it's not what you expected, you can return it to me. However, once you have fresh indoor air it is difficult to go back to what you used to breathe!

Go here now....enter the code word when you order...and save!

The Dangers of Plastics

The Dangers of Plastic

This information is being circulated at Walter Reed
Army Medical Center .

*No plastic containers in the microwave.

*No water bottles in the freezer.

*No plastic wrap in the microwave.

A dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently,Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital was on a TV program to explain this health hazard.

He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.

He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers...

This especially applies to foods that contain fat.

He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastic releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body...

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food.. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.

Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food
restaurants moved away from the foam containers to
paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons...

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran wrap, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave.

As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

So...be cautious when using plastic bottles or containers with food or water. Your best solution is to use glass or metal.

What's Wrong with Veggies & Fruits at the Store?

Here is a great article explaining why the fruits and veggies we eat now don't have the nutrition they had years ago. We need to supplement with QUALITY whole-foods-- which ones?

**********************************************************************************

The February issue of the Journal of HortScience published a report on the sad state of American fruits and veggies. As it turns out, our current bounty of fruits and veggies is poor in quality and taste—at least according to Donald R. Davis, a former research associate with the Biochemical Institute at the University of Texas, Austin. Davis claims the average vegetable found in today's supermarket is anywhere from 5% to 40% lower in minerals (including magnesium, iron, calcium and zinc) than those harvested just 50 years ago.

Davis reported that although it was difficult to examine “before” and “after” nutrient profiles, we clearly have less nutrition coming from our fruits and vegetables today.

Case #1: Don’t be fooled by the size of that apple! Today's vegetables might be larger, but if you think that means they contain more nutrients, you'd be wrong,” stated Davis. Jumbo-sized produce contains more "dry matter" than anything else, which dilutes mineral concentrations.

Case #2: Plants have experienced a genetic dilution effect. Selective breeding to increase crop yield has led to declines in protein, amino acids, and as many as six minerals in one study of commercial broccoli. There is no assurance that dozens of other nutrients and thousands of phytochemicals will all increase in proportion to yield.

Case #3: With more chemical fertilizers and pesticides being used on modern crops, plants are being harvested faster than ever before and that means the produce has less time to absorb nutrients either from synthesis or the soil.

Davis finds it ironic that as billions of people around the world are suffering from malnutrition, efforts to increase food production have actually produced food that is nutritionally bankrupt.

This study is just another reason that I support the use of Juice Plus+, a whole foods supplement made from raw fruits and veggies. It’s been carefully tested for herbicides and pesticides and is backed up by plenty of research to show it gets into our bloodstream and works. Doesn’t it make sense, then, to enhance our intake with concentrated whole foods nutrition?

Disease Loves an Acidic Body! Change it!

Disease loves an acidic body. All doctors agree on this point. If we would exercise and eat a more alkaline diet we would not see such an increase of diseases like diabetes, acid reflux, cancer and more!

However, eating truckloads of spinach and kale every day is not always practical or pleasing. An easier way to become more alkaline is to drink ionized, alkaline water...like Kangen Water. Our family has been drinking this water for months now and LOVE it! If you live locally to me, I'd be happy to give you a few free gallons to try!

Here is the latest on the news about Cancer & Obesity...yes, there is a link to the two...and yes, the USA is #1 for this problem in the world.

HPV Vaccination--Is it safe for your daughter?

Greetings!

I know that some vaccines may be necessary, however, I am not a big fan of having my kids vaccinated for diseases that aren't at big risk for. Let's see--is my 10 yr. old sexually active and taking drugs....or will they be in the next 5 years? Probably and hopefully not! Maybe when they are headed off to college I'll rethink it.

I am fearful of vaccines like the HPV for girls that was rushed onto the market and advertised as a necessary vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. Was it tested long enough? Do all girls really need it?

Here is a little video with Katie Couric reporting on the dangers of this HPV vaccine.
Katie Couric-HPV story

As a parent we have the right to say NO to vaccines. If we don't feel right about it, then do your research. It is your child's health!

The Healthy Way to Cook Veggies

Greetings!

Did you know we are supposed to eat 7 -10 servings of fruits and veggies EVERY day? That's not 7-10 bites of fruits and vegetables...it's whole servings! We know that is almost impossible for the average person.

This is a good article on some healthy ways to cook vegetables. Sometimes serving food that is prepared different can inspire new interest in it. So give it a try! Healthy Ways to Cook Veggies

And if this doesn't get you eating enough veggies each day then you may want to look at supplementing with whole fruit and vegetables in capsule form --- Juice Plus capsules

What the Digital Age may be Like soon....

Several people have sent me versions of this because of President Obama's interest in a national health care plan, and it's a bit long, but scary and funny and thought-provoking and I hope you enjoy it. This version is one I enjoyed. Let's hope it's not too close to being true!
************************************************************************************************************************************

"Pizza Hut. May I have your... "
Customer: "Hi, I'd like to order."

Operator: "May I have your NIDN first, sir?"

Customer: "My National ID Number, yeah, hold on, eh, it's
6102049998-45-54610."

Operator: "Thank you, Mr. Sheehan. I see you live at 1742 Meadowland Drive and the phone number's 494-2366. Your office number at work is 745-2302 and your cell number's 266-2566. Which number are you calling from, sir?"

Customer: "Huh? I'm at home. Where d'ya get all this information?"

Operator: "We're wired into the system, sir."

Customer: (Sighs) "Oh, well, I'd like to order a couple of your all-meat Special pizzas..."

Operator: "I don't think that's a good idea, sir."

Customer: "Whaddya mean?"

Operator: "Sir, your medical records indicate that you've got very high blood pressure and extremely high cholesterol. Your National Health Care provider won't allow such an unhealthy choice."

Customer: "What do you recommend, then?"

Operator: "You might try our low-fat Soybean Yogurt Pizza. I'm sure you'll like it.

Customer: "What makes you think I'd like something like that?"

Operator: "Well, you checked out 'Gourmet Soybean Recipes' from your local library last week, sir. That's why I made the suggestion."

Customer: "All right, all right. Give me two family-sized ones, then. What's the damage?"

Operator: "That should be plenty for you, your wife and your four kids, sir. The 'damage,' as you put it, comes $49.99."

Customer: "Lemme give you my credit card number."

Operator: "I'm sorry sir, but I'm afraid you'll have to pay in cash. Your credit card balance is over its limit."

Customer: "I'll run over to the ATM and get some cash before your driver gets here."

Operator: "That won't work either, sir. Your checking account's overdrawn."

Customer: "Never mind. Just send the pizzas. I'll have the cash ready. How long will it take?"

Operator: "We're running a little behind, sir. It'll be about 45 minutes. Sir, if you're in a hurry you might want to pick 'em up while you're out getting the cash, but carrying pizzas on a motorcycle can be a little awkward."

Customer: "How do you know I'm riding a bike?"

Operator: "It says here you're in arrears on your car payments, so your car got repo'ed. But your Harley's paid up, so I just assumed that you'd be using it."

Customer: "@#%/$@&?#!"

Operator: "I'd advise watching your language, sir. You've already got a July 2012 conviction for cussing out a cop."

Customer: (Speechless)

Operator: "Will there be anything else, sir?"

Customer: "No, nothing. oh, yeah, don't forget the two free liters of Coke your ad says I get with the pizzas."

Operator: "I'm sorry sir, but our ad's exclusionary clause prevents us from offering free soda to diabetics."

Warning! Soda Pop is Dangerous to your Health...

We have a refrigerator in the garage. It used to be known as our Pop refrigerator. I used to keep it stocked for my older boys when they were teenagers. The kids would always stop there first when they came in with friends. Well, those days are gone. I no longer buy pop/soda. I refuse to buy Gatorade. Both were snack drinks of choice at our home but now I know how acidic they are.
One can of soda or bottle of Gatorade and you'll have to drink 30 cans of Kangen Water (or alkaline water) to get your body back to the PH level it was before you drank that soda or Gatorade. Yikes... Yes, Gatorade and pop are extremely acidic and disease LOVES an acidic body.

So from now on I will try offer more alkaline foods & drinks to my family since we are bombarded with acidic foods & drinks. Most of our diet is acidic, by nature.

>> Here is a great article about the Dangers of Soda. Please take a few minutes to read it --- Amazing information!

Does your home have Dust Mites? Check this...

Greetings.....

Does your home have Dust Mites?

House dust mite presence is often suspected before they are actually seen and accurately identified. Usually it happens when somebody in the household experiences headaches, fatigue, watery eyes, or sneezing.
The presence of house dust mites can be confirmed microscopically which requires collecting samples from mattresses, couches or carpets. Also, it requires the use of a microscope with sufficient magnification and the technical ability to recognize house dust mites under the microscope. There are also diagnostic tests sold and distributed in the U.S. One must collect dust samples and mix a portion of the sample with reagents packed with the test. Then, a dipstick is placed into the mixture, and the color change then compared to a chart packed with the test.By encasing your mattress, box spring, pillow and comforter with dust mite proof bedding, you insure that you are protected from any infestation. Even if your mattress is infested with dust mites, our barrier fabrics will seal them off ultimately killing them. Please look at our GUIDE to see which materials are best to seal them off from you and your family.

I hope this helps! I love this store full of Allergy-Free beddings, pillows & more!

How much SLEEP should kids be getting?

Greetings!

I don't know about you, but my kids sleep long hours on the weekends. I, then, have to nag them to go to bed early enough on week days since I know they have to get up early for school. My little guy likes 10 hours of sleep each night and still doesn't hesitate to go to bed by 8 or 8:30. He has never missed a day of school for being sick and I actually can't remember a day within the last year that he actually was sick.

All my kids are on Juice Plus, fruits & veggies in capsule form, which I think helps keep their immune system up. Juice Plus info

However, kids as well as adults, need to get enough sleep to keep their bodies strong. How much sleep do you think a kid needs?

Living with Asthma & Allergies

Go to any grade school or high school sporting event. Take a peek at the sideline bench and note how many inhalers you see. Did you know that the number one reason children miss school is asthma? Why the explosion of asthma and respiratory problems in children?

These are the four reasons respiratory problems are on the rise!

1) 'Couch Potato Generation' - kids weigh more, exercise less and spend more time indoors.
2) Too much antibiotic use - Immune systems never get much opportunity to fight infections, and then react abnormally to airborne contaminants.
3) Air Pollution -Pollution does not cause asthma but can be a trigger for an attack. Cars and factories now have stricter controls on emissions but the problem is still there.
4) Indoor Air Pollution - 20 years ago no one ever heard of Indoor Pollution!

Since the Energy Crisis in the 70's, buildings became more energy efficient. This meant all pollutants became trapped inside. Many of the items we furnish our home and school with are outgassing contaminants continually. Carpeting, curtains, cleaning products, particle board furniture and more! With people spending 90-% of their days indoors, this becomes a problem!

What can you do to protect your kids from asthma or allergy reactions? Here are seven allergy proofing tips!

1) Watch for days when pollen counts are high and restrictvigorous exercise on hot days.
2) Avoid Wood Stoves and fireplaces in the home and NEVER allow smoking in the home of an asthmatic.
3) Keep pets out of the bedrooms.
4) Make sure kitchen, bathrooms, and basement are well ventilated to cut down on mold in humidity.
5) Put pillows and mattresses in allergen-impermeable covers to cut down exposure to dust mites.
6) Use non-toxic cleaning products and avoid perfumes and scented products.
7) A filter-less air purifier is highly recommended since a filter can only capture a small portion of allergens.
