10 Reasons to Drink More Water

More than two-thirds of your body weight is water. Without adequate water your body’s biochemical and electrical (yes electrical, read on!) processes begin to break down. The list of reasons your body needs water is as plentiful as the functions in your body, so due to space limitations, here are 10 good reasons to drink more water:
1. Your blood is over 80 percent water and needs water to make healthy new blood cells.
2. Your bones are over 50 percent water and, you guessed it, need water to make healthy new bone cells.
3. Drinking more water actually helps lessen pain in your body by getting your lymphatic system moving. The lymphatic system is a network of nodes, tubes, vessels, and fluid that move waste out of your tissues. It requires water to function properly.
4. Water helps to eliminate wastes and toxins from your body through the lymphatic system, kidneys, and intestines.
5. Water lubricates your joints and helps reduce joint pain and protect against wear and tear.
6. Water regulates your metabolism so if you’re overweight chances are you may need more water.
7. Water balances body temperature.
8. Water helps to ensure adequate electrical functioning so your brain and nervous system function properly. Your brain and nervous system send out electrical signals to function properly. Researchers estimate that your brain gives off about the same amount of electricity as a 60 watt light bulb. So, there’s some truth to the image of a light bulb going on when someone has a good idea.
9. Water alleviates dehydration (and I’ve already mentioned that most people are chronically dehydrated).
10. Every cell and organ in your body requires adequate water to function properly.
So, one of the quickest and easiest ways to improve your health is to start drinking more pure water every day. Be sure to drink water an empty stomach or you’ll simply be diluting your digestive enzymes and making your digestion less effective.
And, choose purified water as much as possible (but get yourself a BPA-free water bottle so you won’t pollute the planet with all those plastic water bottles. In wealthy, developed nations with plentiful access to water, we really have no excuses for not drinking enough water.

Kangen Water & Parkinsons

Greetings!

It is always amazing to see health benefits from products we use.  Kangen Water, made by Enagic, is no exception.  Most people will see positive changes in their health after drinking Kangen Water for a week.  No one would ever come back and ask for refills of water gallons with regular bottled water.

Here is a wonderful story.  I have met Steve on numerous occasions and all I have seen is a healthy looking man.  I did not know him when he was so ill with Parkinsons.  Does this water cure Parkinsons?  NO....

This water does not CURE anything.  Once the body is hydrated properly then it can begin to heal itself...the way God intended our body to work.

Update on our Hypo-Allergenic Cat

Greetings!

Well, we've had our Russian Siberian kitten for 2 1/2 months now and he is growing quickly.  At 4 months he weighed 6 lbs.  At the end of April he will be 6 months old and I think he is around 10 lbs. now.  He is a beautiful cat with expressive golden eyes.  He is very playful and extremely affectionate.  He will crawl up on my lap and put his front paws on my shoulder and cuddle like a baby.  My kids (the Russian-Siberian kids!) adore him and fight over who gets to sleep with him each night.  My older 3 sons claim they do not like cats, but we have caught each one of them holding the cat or playing with him.  Their response when we have mentioned this? "Dogs are better."  Yeah, but they still like this cat.
My husband, who usually has to use an inhaler around a cat, has been fine with him.  Nikita is a big furry kitten and up till now has shed very little.  I am seeing that we need to brush him more as I hear they do shed a lot in the spring and fall.  I have begun to see more clumps of fur on the carpeting and on clothes... as sure sign we are really cat owners now.
I found that Discovery Planet does a nice job describing different breeds of cats. Their video on Siberians is pretty accurate.  These cats are quite dog like and a lot of fun.  They are so cute too!
Here is the video....
Click on 'Siberian' to learn more about this amazing breed.
Our kitten looks like the reddish one with white markings in the video.

So---if you have cat allergies but want a pet, this may be one cat you can tolerate.  But any reliable breeder will want you to check this out before you bring a kitten home.
Here is a photo of Nikita...our Russian Siberian cat.  I think he may just double in size in the next few years!
Have a healthy day!

Proof that Enagic uses Medical Devices

Greetings!
Over and over I hear that Enagic's units are too expensive and that other units on the market are THE SAME for less money.  However, they are not the same.  Over 90% of our competition are units made from the same factory in Korea.  These units are NOT listed as medical devices and have no certificates to prove this.  Some websites claim they have certificates but if you check further you will find the numbers on these papers are not legitimate.
Our units, that produce Kangen Water, are medical devices and have been used in over 200 hospitals and clinics in Japan for over 30 years.
Here is a page listing our medical certificates.

Is Kangen Water different than other Waters?

Greetings!

I hear all the time that our Enagic water units are over priced and that there are other units out there that are the same as ours but half the price.  That is what those companies want you to believe.  Once you drink Kangen water for any period of time you will find that no other water can compare to it.  Here are some facts....

Enagic's devices are licensed medical devices and have been granted a license number by the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare.

These machines are manufactured in Japan and are sold in the United States. These other companies selling their machines in the US do not have Japanese approval or even the recognition in their own country as a medical device.
SD501

Are we the best? Well, let's put it this way.

In 2009 we have sold more than 500,000 devices in Japan and the United States.
In 2002, our firm was individually recognized by the Japanese Association of Preventative Medicine for Adult Diseases, a renowned medical association.
In 2007, the Enagic Osaka factory acquired ISO 13485 (medical equipment), ISO9001 (quality control), and ISO14001 (environmental management) license recognition.
Plus, we offer global repair and support service for our units, something no other company offers nor supports.
Our machines can be serviced in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the European Union, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.  95% of all other units on the market are manufactured in Korea...most from the same plant known for making ice machines.  They are not made with medical grade parts like Enagic units.

Would you like to take a tour of the Enagic plant to see how they are made?

The Truth about your Tap Water

Greetings!

Most of us assume that our tap water is pretty clean.  We really hope it is since we use tap water all day long...to drink, wash off our produce, wash our bodies and more.  Do I really want water that is full of chemicals and sewage to be 'washing off' my fruit?

Here is a nice site that tells you a little more info about your tap water.  You can even go to the water treatment site for your area and see how they treat your tap water.

Personally, I am very thankful to have Kangen Water in my life.  I can drink clean alkaline water and also clean all my produce thoroughly of pesticides and bacteria.   Kangen Water

Day 3 Being Dairy-Free

Greetings!
3 days ago I spoke with my sister about food allergies.  She has celiac disease which simply means her body does not process gluten.  Therefore she is on a gluten free diet.  I was tested for celiac since it does run in families but I do not have it.  However, I still have some sinus issues and my sister thought I should try a dairy-free diet.
Dairy products are not as healthy as the dairy industry would like us all to believe.  Dairy can cause skin issues, congestion, and digestive issues.
So...3 days ago I began my dairy-free diet.  This includes reading labels for hidden dairy ingredients.  So far, I have been pretty good.  I had almond milk on my cereal this morning and it tasted ok.  We had tacos last night and I avoided the sour cream and grated cheese...although I missed them! All in all, the tacos tasted ok and I tried not to think of it.
I was curious if others on Dairy-Free diets have any products they LOVE that are great substitutes for the dairy products we are used to.
Any suggestions or tips????
I will let you know how this progresses for me and if it really makes a difference in how I feel!

Until next time....

Chronic Kidney Disease needs Hydration

Chronic Kidney Disease a Case For Ultra-hydration
By LouAnn Savage

Do you get up in the morning and on that first trip to the bathroom find your urine to be a dark yellow color with a pungent ammonia smell? This is your clue that you're biological terrain is way over on the acidic side. I'm not writing this to scare you...but then again, maybe I am. Maybe it's going to be your wake-up call and if it is, I'm glad.

Here's the deal. You've slept all night without going to the bathroom while the body continues to clean toxins out of your system and dump them into your kidneys. All systems are go and they are working hard to keep you functioning on automatic until you can wake up and hydrate. Once you hydrate the kidneys are happy. The toxin build-up in your kidneys gets flushed out. Making sure you hydrate well first thing upon awakening and before eating is the single most important thing you can do for your overall health.

Located to the back of the abdomen, the kidneys are a pair of organs you can't live without. Hard to imagine, but all the blood in our body goes through the kidneys over and over during the day...and night. They perform the critical function of filtering the blood and creating urine that is the waste product of the work they do 24/7. The kidneys regulate fluid volume, composition of minerals and acidity when they excrete and reabsorb water and inorganic electrolytes. A complex regulatory system that contributes to the balance of sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, sulfate, phosphate and hydrogen within the body, they maintain the normal concentrations in the extracellular fluids.

Because your kidneys balance your body's acid-alkaline balance, the level of bicarbonate in your blood is extremely important. Bicarbonate [HCO3] is a chemical or buffer that prevents the pH of the blood from becoming too acidic or too alkaline. This task of the kidneys is imperative for you to have life.

When there is ingestion or production of too much acid or too much alkaline substances, it becomes a stressor for the kidneys. This can make for difficulty in regulating pH. It's also possible to lose as much as 90% of kidney function without even experiencing any symptoms or problems. It makes the case for why water is critical to the health of your kidneys. It is the most important element for keeping you healthy and averting kidney disease.

Remember this, kidneys are the final buffer for facilitating the body's ability to keep its acid and alkaline conditions in balance. What is scary about chronic kidney disease is this. When you finally discover you have it, it has been present for many, many years. When you know this, the single most critical reason for drinking the very best water you can lay your hands on makes even more sense. And what would that water be? That would be micro-ionized, structured water. It's a water that has been proven scientifically to have superior efficacy and contribute to homeostasis. When choosing a micro-ionized water take a good, deep, hard look at Kangen water. A water endorsed by 6500 medical doctors in Japan and is the preferred water of Hiromi Shinya, M.D. cited on page 94 of his best selling book, The Enzyme Factor .

Had a Healthy Dose of Laughter today?

Why is Laughter good for your health?

  • Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.
  • Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
  • Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
  • Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.
Laughter is truly the best medicine we have.  Read this great article on Laughter!

Warning: Genetically Modified Foods

Genetically Modified Foods (GMO)

Genetically modified or genetically engineered fruits and vegetables grown for human consumption are big business on an insidious worldwide scale. Backers of genetic modification believe it to be the only viable way to feed a growing global population without depleting natural resources. Critics of GM farming— and I am one of them—consider it eco-tampering and a threat to biodiversity. There very well could be a rise in allergic reactions to foods as well as more use of chemicals, causing a less healthy situation.

Read a very interesting article by Nutrition Therapist, Daniella Chase on this subject.
We need to be aware of how industry is changing our foods.  Be informed.  Knowledge is GOOD!

Food Myths

Here are common questions & myths about some foods we eat.

Q: Are baby carrots preserved with bleach?

A: Not exactly … and there's no reason to stop eating them, says Randy Worobo, Ph.D., an associate professor of food microbiology at Cornell University. Baby carrots are rinsed (not preserved) in a chlorine wash, recommended by the FDA, to kill bacteria like salmonella and E. coli, which cause foodborne illness. Most precut produce, including frozen veggies and fruit salad, is washed with this or a similar sanitizer.

Q: Can eating too much sugar cause diabetes?

A: Not in the same smoking-gun way that cigarettes cause cancer, but research shows that sugar may play a part—and it's smart to limit your intake. First and foremost, being overweight does increase your risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and consuming too much sugar can contribute to weight gain.

Still, some emerging research suggests that excess sugar intake can increase diabetes risk regardless of weight. A landmark JAMA study found that women nearly doubled their diabetes risk when they increased the number of sugar-added drinks they consumed from 1 or fewer a week to 1 or more per day over a 4-year period.

Q: Do spicy foods boost metabolism?

A: We wish! Your metabolic rate is determined by your gender, height, present weight/body composition, and age. These factors determine the amount of calories the body will burn to maintain the basic functions of life that occur even when we sleep—the energy used by the heart, brain, lungs, intestines, etc. Eating spicy foods cannot significantly increase metabolic rate and help you burn more calories at rest.

Although your body temperature may temporarily rise and your heart may beat a bit faster after eating "hot" foods, over the long term spices will not make any changes in the rate of metabolism.

Q: Is white flour bleached with dangerous chemicals?

A: No. Some Web sites allege that flour is bleached with alloxan, a compound that caused diabetes in animal research, but experts tell us that's not true. Flour bleaches naturally on its own as yellow compounds called xantophylls react with oxygen in the air; this takes several weeks. To speed the whitening, processors bleach flour—turning it white from its natural straw color—with safe, FDA-regulated chemicals (some of the same ones used to sanitize veggies).

Alloxan may form as a byproduct, but the amount is minuscule (less than 0.03 mg per slice of bread) and harmless, says Julie Jones, Ph.D., professor emeritus of family, consumer, and nutritional sciences at St. Catherine University.

Q: It’s safe to follow the 5-second rule for dropped food, right?

A: It's probably not even safe to follow a 1-second rule: The transfer of bacteria from a contaminated surface to food is almost instantaneous—or, at the very least, quicker than your reflexes. In one study, Clemson University food scientist Paul Dawson, Ph.D., and students contaminated several surfaces (ceramic tile, wood flooring, and carpet) with Salmonella. They then dropped pieces of bologna and slices of bread on the surfaces for as little as 5 seconds and as long as 60 seconds.

After just 5 seconds, both food types had already picked up as many as 1,800 bacteria (more bad bugs adhered to the moisture-rich bologna than the bread); after a full minute, it was up to 10 times that amount.

These facts were taken from articles on http://www.prevention.com/ .

By the way, I was a bit surprised to hear that pre-cut veggies were rinsed in a chlorine solutions as well as bleached flour.  Then I realized that regular tap water is considered a chlorine rinse also.  Do you know how toxic chlorine is?  VERY!  I am quite glad my fruits, veggies and salads are rinsed in 11.5 Alkaline water (Kangen)...kills all bacteria and removes all chemicals so I can enjoy the real taste of my food.

Water or Coke?

We all learned “Things Go Better With Coke”, right? Don’t believe every jingle you hear.....

Soda (ALL soda, diet soda, sports drinks, energy drinks) are very acidic, and disease loves to grow in an acidic state
Soda is very oxidizing in your body, it can inflame, and oxidation is what ages us!
Soda is dehydrating...

And we all know we should drink more water, but why don’t we, or why are we still dehydrated?

Get this: All adult degenerative diseases have 3 things in common:
The sufferers test with an acidic pH, they have inflammation and oxidative stress, and they are dehydrated! You can connect the dots...

For the best solution I have found to my former addiction to reverse osmosis water and Diet Coke, and to the un-wellness we walk around in, check out the links at the bottom...
You decide: Water or Coke?

WATER

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it
is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8.. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79% and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
you should drink every day?

COKE

#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.

#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.

#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china.
.

#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
.

#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.

#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
.

#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the
drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
windshield.
.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1 The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a Hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?

or Coke?

Kitten Evaluates Pet Food!

We got a new kitten this week.  It is a Russian Siberian, which is hypoallergenic to most people.  My husband is usually very allergic to cats, but has no problem with this breed.  They are a BIG cat, but act rather dog-like in nature...playful, smart, and social.  We named this little guy, Nikita...which is Russian for 'unconquerable'. He is small now, but will grow to be about 17 lbs. by the time he is 3.
The breeder has all her kittens on a good cat food.  We are supposed to continue with that food, and if we make any changes we need to do it slowly as to not upset his stomach.
Nikita didn't seem to care for the dry food she provided.  He does like the canned.  I started adding a little of the Trilogy food that I have on my website.  I had asked a naturopathic vet to evaluate my Trilogy food and she said the dry cat food was great, and that the canned cat food was one of the best ones she had ever seen.  Today Nikita was picking out her old food and putting it on the floor and eating the Trilogy food.  I guess he knows what he likes!
Do you have a good pet food?
Have you evaluated its ingredients? Does it get delivered to your door?
Check out your pet foods against other top brands and see how healthy it is for your pet!
I will share in the next post more about this great pet for people with pet allergies.

What is in Your Tap Water?

What is in that tap water you are drinking?  And if you don't think you are drinking it, then are you washing your foods with it?  Are you cooking with it?  If so, then you are ingesting it.
I was surprised to see that the tap water in my town has twice the number of chemicals than the average tap water.  Hmm....
Maybe you should check out your tap water and see what's in it---
A wonderful resource is: http://ewg.org/tap-water . This group has investigated tap water all over the country. You can put in your zip code and find out exactly what contaminants are in your water and what are over not only legal limit, but over health guidelines as well.

If you want to make healthy alkaline water out of your existing tap water then choose the highest quality unit on the market...the Enagic unit that creates Kangen Water.

What Types of Water are There?

What Types of Water are There?

Types of Water

We often call the earth "The Planet of Water".

Roughly 70% of its surface is covered with water. All living things

on the planet rely on water for survival. We need to drink lots of

water, but unfortunately most of the drinking water available to

us is simply not healthy anymore. In some cases, our drinking

water is dangerous to our health.

Tap Water

How do you feel about drinking 8 glasses of tap water each day?

Chlorination makes tap water safe to drink but it can also react

with organic compounds inside your body to produce toxic

substances, especially in your colon. Small amounts of chlorine

are added to our public drinking water supply to kill bacteria and

other microorganisms. This amount of chlorine is small enough

for us to drink but it can still kill bacteria and enzymes in our

body essential to digestion.

During a shower, our bodies absorb roughly 2 glasses of this

chlorinated water through our skin. We also inhale the mist and

steam of this water while we shower. Nearly all tap water supplies

contain large amounts of active oxygen (oxidants) and high

positive ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) values. Having a

high POSITIVE ORP means that tap water can be very oxidizing,

or destructive to your body.

Purified Water Distilled Water and Reverse

Osmosis

Distilled water and water purified by reverse osmosis may not

have most pollutants and additives found in tap water, but it also

lacks any minerals naturally found earth's water that are

essential to our well being. These processes remove

EVERYTHING from the water, including helpful minerals.

Since this water contains no minerals or life whatsoever, it

leaches vital minerals and alkaline buffers from our bodies.

Distilled water and reverse osmosis water have no energy or

vitality at all and can contribute to an acidic state in our bodies.

Bottled Water (Including "Mineral Water")

You might think that bottled water is healthier than tap water. But

in a four-year scientific study, The NRDC (Natural Resources

Defense Council) tested more than 1,000 bottles of 103 brands,

a third of them were found to contain contaminants such as

arsenic and carcinogens.

Recently, another shocking study showed that over time cancer-

causing toxins such as dioxin leach into the water from the

plastic bottle. Actually, a lot of the bottled "spring" waters are just

filtered tap water put in a plastic bottle. These bottles often

remain on store and factory shelves, unopened for months or

even years.

Bottled water is essentially dead water. If you choose your water

based on the package or the brand, you should know that some

95% of the price you are paying for that bottled water is covering

other costs, such as packaging, advertising, distribution costs,

rather than the water itself.

Yet, bottled water is so popular and available almost

everywhere. As a result, the bottled water industry enjoys annual

sales of more than $3.5 billion worldwide. 15 years ago people

wouldn't spend $3-$5 per day on bottled water; these days they

do.

Alkaline Ionized Water

Alkaline ionized water is by far the healthiest water available

today. Decades of scientific and medical research have gone

into its developement. It is produced by an in-home machine that

first filters and then ionizes tap water. This process splits the

water into its alkaline and acidic parts. The alkaline water is used

for drinking. It has tremendous hydrating and antioxidant

qualities, due in part to its smaller water clusters and abundance

of extra electrons created by the ionization process.

Kangen™ Water - The Highest Grade of Alkaline

Ionized Water

Kangen™ water has the strongest antioxidant power of any

alkaline ionized water. The Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP)

of Kangen™ water can reach up to -500mV, where most

average ionized water reaches only around -150mV.

The difference is significant. As a matter of fact, regular Alkaline

Ionized Water units are classified as "home health appliance,"

while Kangen™ Water units are in the "medical device"

them make units certified as Kangen™ Water grade.

Enagic ONLY manufactures certified Kangen™ Water units. And

its quality is considered by many as the best of the best in the

industry.

The word "Kangen™" "return to origin" in Japanese. A more

general meanings would be "renewing" or "restoring". Drinking

Thriving Through the Holidays

I have copied this article by Jim Rohn, one of my favorite motivational speakers, who passed away last week.  He was wonderful and I totally encourage you to read his books and listen to his CD's.  He was one of the most grounded and thoughtful thinking men of our times.

The holidays can be stressful and they really don't have to be.  Here are Jim's words on keeping the holiday a time of celebration.

Thriving Through the Holidays by Jim Rohn

The holidays are upon us; a time of celebration and joy. I love the last days of November through the beginning of the New Year. The pure magic of the holidays is something that I anticipate and enjoy each and every year.

For some though, the holidays have lost the joy and excitement they at other times have had. The pace of life has grown so fast—much faster than those first holidays I remember in my life—that some people don’t enjoy the times they get to spend with their family and friends during what is supposed to be days filled with joy and peace.

Why is that? Probably a lot can be laid at the feet of how fast-paced our times are, but that isn’t all.

I believe our holiday times should be wonderful and filled with lasting and enjoyable moments and memories. So how can we ensure that we come out of the holidays in January with great memories of the past month? Here are six thoughts that will help you experience the holidays the way they were intended to be experienced:

Be Temperate

Holidays can be days of excess for many—too much food, too many cookies and treats. Too much chocolate, schedules that are too busy. One thing that will help you enjoy the holidays is to be temperate. Enjoy the food. Enjoy the treats. Enjoy the busy schedule of activities and parties. But also be disciplined enough to know when to hold back, when to say, “No.” When we go overboard we regret it and lose the opportunity to fully experience that moment. But when we enjoy a little and refrain from going too far, then we can enjoy all that little piece of time has to offer.

Lower Your Expectations

Much of the frustration people experience from the holidays is from setting their expectations too high. They expect too much from friends or family, and when they don’t get what they want, they get frustrated. They expect presents to be perfect and when they aren’t, they get frustrated or disappointed. Instead of having huge expectations this holiday season, just take it as it comes and enjoy what you can. And this brings me to my next point.

Enjoy What You Can and Ignore the Rest

This holiday season, go with an attitude of knowing that things will be what they will be. You can’t control other people or their actions. If a family member pushes the limits of your patience, ignore that and instead focus on how much you can enjoy the time you have with other family members. If things don’t go perfectly—which they won’t—then enjoy what you can and let the rest slide. You will feel a lot better about life if you can take all things a little easier.

Stay Out of Debt

Debt is a killer. It will steal your enjoyment of life. Be sure to stay within your financial boundaries this holiday season. The last thing you want is to start the New Year with a deeper burden financially. Know where you are financially and stay within those limits. You don’t have to impress anyone, just buy gifts that you can afford and express your feelings in the giving of the gift.

Take Time for Yourself

Be sure that, no matter how busy you get, you take time for yourself. Take time to read. Take a long bath if that relaxes you. Take a walk. Spend some time of quiet in front of a fire. Don’t rush through the holidays and sap all of your energy. Your mind and body need to be reenergized, so be sure to take time to do so.

Focus on Your Spiritual Life

Ultimately, no matter what tradition you come from, the holidays are historically days in which we focus on the spiritual. Men and women are created with a natural draw toward spiritual life. However, our culture today tends to stay away from a focus on the spiritual, and that has even crept into our holidays. Be sure to place an emphasis on building your spiritual life and growing in that area. This will help keep you grounded and able to deal with anything that may come your way.

Friends, this time of year is another chance to remember the important truths of life and to enjoy time with dear friends and family.

May you experience the very best this holiday season and move into January better than ever!

What Causes Indoor Air Pollution?

Feeling safe and comfortable in your home?

Well, don't! You're living in a toxic wasteland, a poisonous stew of chemicals and air pollution.

OK, OK, let's start over without the drama.

True, people are becoming increasingly concerned with the health and safety of their homes, from the air quality to the water. And some profiteers have turned this trend into scare messages, complete with close-ups of dust mites lurking in your pillow and killer mold poised to attack your family.

What are some of the real causes of Indoor Air Pollutions?  These may surprise you.....

http://www.healthy-environments.com/Causes-of-Indoor-Pollution.asp

Are there some that I missed?  Let me know....

Otherwise, I hope you are having a Healthy Day...or making changes towards this goal.

Alkaline or Die!

Greetings....

One of the least understood concepts of nutrition is understanding acid and alkaline balance.  The cells of the body rely on acid-alkaline balance. If the body fluids are abnormal, digestive enzymes are rendered inactive. Food will then not digest properly and allergic reactions can result.

Optimally, we want the fluids in our body to have a 7.0 - 7.2 pH level. If pH levels are too acidic or too alkaline, then the cells will get poisoned from their own waste and die. Total healing of chronic illness only takes place when, and if, the blood is restored to a normal, slightly alkaline pH.

If you have health problems, then you are acidic.Unless your body is slightly alkaline, then it cannot heal itself.  You can try to eat a more alkaline diet, but to do so all day long is very difficult.  Our polluted air is acidic, stress makes us acidic and foods like meats, dairy and breads are acidic.  So, the easiest way to maintain alkalinity all day is to drink alkaline water throughout the day.

Kangen water is the premium alkaline water since the unit it comes from is a medical device in Japan and all its components are medical grade.  No other unit can compare to the units made by Enagic.

Check it out at TheWetterWater.  Watch the videos...get informed!
If you'd like a FREE DVD that shows how this water works to create a healthier body, please let me know and I'll pop one in the mail to you today.

What are Symptoms of Swine Flu?

Greetings!

People are acting crazy about Swine Flu yet are still misinformed about what it is...and what the true symptoms are.  Here is a nice chart that describes the difference between a bad cold and the Swine Flu.

Know the Difference between a Cold and H1N1 Flu Symptoms

Fever:

Fever is rare with a cold.

Fever is usually present with the flu in up to 80% of all flu cases. A temperature of 100°F or higher for 3 to 4 days is associated with the H1N1 flu

Coughing:

A hacking, productive (mucus- producing) cough is often present with a cold..

A non-productive (non-mucus producing) cough is usually present with the H1N1 flu (sometimes referred to as dry cough).

Aches:

Slight body aches and pains can be part of a cold.

Severe aches and pains are common with the H1N1 flu.

Stuffy Nose:

Stuffy nose is commonly present with a cold and typically resolves spontaneously within a week.

10 Safe & Not so Spooky Halloween Activities

Halloween Greetings!

Here is a terrific article that offers 10 Safe and Fun Halloween Activities for the whole family. As a mom of 5 kids I have always looked for simple ways to make Halloween fun and not just a 'Sugar-loaded Holiday'.

Enjoy!

Too Cute To Spook: 10 Not So Scary Halloween Activities
by Dr. Caron B Goode, NCC

For many young children, this Halloween will be the first time they see a tombstone on a lawn, a skeleton hanging from a tree, and people they are familiar with, appearing to be someone they are not.

Young children have a difficult time distinguishing between what’s real and what’s not. In fact, until children reach the age of 5, the boundaries between reality and fantasy often remain blurred. They may believe the ghosts and ghouls are going to “get them” or that the walking mummy wondering around the neighborhood is “real.” It’s this reason that some children, especially sensitive ones, may find October 31 to be scarier than it is fun.

If you’re a parent of a child pre-school aged child or younger, consider shifting to a not so scary celebration this Halloween. From less spooky costumes to kid friendly arts and crafts, the little ones can have Halloween fun, without the fright.

Try incorporating some of these 10 Not So Scary Halloween activities into your holiday celebration. They’re guaranteed to rate high on fun and low on fright.

1. Donuts on a String. Hang small, powdered donuts from a piece of heavy string. Fasten each strung donut to a long line of string. Have an adult hold each end of the line level with the children’s mouths. Encourage the children to try to eat the donut using no hands. Older children may enjoy this activity while wearing a blindfold. If children become frustrated, the donut can be moved to a plate to make eating it hands free easier.

2. Pin the nose on the pumpkin. Create a large pumpkin from orange poster board. Add the eyes and mouth using a black marker. Cut out triangles from black poster board, place double sided tape on the back and hand them out to the children. Let each child have a turn sticking the nose on the pumpkin. While younger children may simply enjoy adding the missing piece to the pumpkins face, older children may enjoy this activity while wearing a blindfold.

3. Decorate Halloween cookies. Bake sugar cookies in the shape of pumpkins. Provide frosting and sprinkles for the children to decorate their own cookie. This is a fun project that doubles as a festive treat. Children can decorate additional cookies, place them in a cellophane bag, tie them closed with ribbon and give them out as special gifts to family and friends.

4. Visit a farm. Consider incorporating the fall harvest theme into your not so scary celebration. Many farms have pumpkin patches for children to select their own pumpkins. Some even have petting zoos, hay rides, train rides and more. The natural and often colorful scenery at most farms makes the perfect backdrop for fall family photos.

5. Decorate pumpkins. While younger children may be too young to carve a pumpkin, they can certainly color, paint and add embellishments like stickers and sparkles. Yarn can be glued on for hair and felt can be used to create hats or other accessories.

6. Host a not so scary Halloween party. Incorporate games like Duck, Duck Pumpkin, read age appropriate Halloween themed books and decorate and snack on pumpkin shaped sugar cookies. Make costumes optional.

7. Hide the pumpkins. Cut out small pumpkins from orange poster board and decorate with black marker. Hide the pumpkins outdoors. Give each child a small bucket to collect all the pumpkins she can find. Give each child a turn at hiding the pumpkins.

8. Attend an alternate Halloween event. Many churches and community centers host free harvest celebrations geared towards the families in their communities. They often have games, activities, food and candy for kids of all ages to enjoy.

9. Organize a neighborhood trunk or treat. Create a theme and invite people you know to decorate their car trunks. Invite everyone over at a set time to park their cars in your driveway. Have the children go from trunk to trunk to collect individually wrapped candy. This allows you to have control over who your child collects candy from and what type of Halloween décor your child is exposed to. Another creative spin on this is to have family members decorate their bedroom doors and hand out candy to each other.

10. Create your own costumes. With a little non-toxic face paint, a bin of dress up clothes and a lot of creativity, you children can create a costume that perfectly suits their personality and level of spookiness they’re comfortable with. Have a parade and award prizes for different costumes. You can give prizes for the most colorful costume, the costume with the most sparkle and more to be sure that all children are recognized for the hard work they put into their costume selection and design.

With some careful thought, a little creativity and advance planning, you can create an age-appropriate Halloween celebration that your child can truly enjoy.

Energy Drinks--- Good or Bad?

You pop open your favorite Energy drink and pound it down. A few minutes later you are 10 feet tall and bulletproof and on top of the world, you feel invincible. An hour later you feel overwhelmed and depressed, your officemates stepping over your now crashed and energy depleted body. You drag yourself to the nearest Energy drink and the vicious cycle starts all over again. How did this happen? Where did it all start?

The soft drink market is a 56 BILLION dollar a year industry. A rising part of this industry falls under the category of Energy drinks. Some of the largest beverage manufactures in the world are scrambling to get a piece of this Energy drink market. Companies such as Anheuser-Busch Co., PepsiCo, Coca-Cola Co. and Hansen Natural Corp. are just a few of the big name companies cashing in on the Energy drink phenomenon.

Red Bull, an Austrian company that introduced its trademark brand to Europe in 1987, created the energy drink category. That year, the company sold 1 million cans. The brand came to the United States in 1997, and last year Red Bull sold 1 billion cans worldwide. Red Bull continues to dominate with 51.4% of the market.

In 2002 Energy drink sales totaled nearly 300 million dollars, nearly double from 2000. In 2005 the Energy drink market reported 3 BILLION dollars in sales. However, all these profits come with a price…your health.

Most Energy drinks contain these 4 main ingredients: caffeine, taurine, sugar and guarana. (some energy drinks are now sugar free but be wary of what they substitute the sugar with. Aspartame is linked to many health issues).

All of these ingredients are stimulants, which squeeze or stimulate our adrenal glands to produce additional adrenaline, norepinephrine and cortisol, which are stress hormones that give us that boost of energy. Unfortunately this continual squeeze on our adrenals can eventually exhaust and burn them out. The continual over-stimulation of our adrenal glands leads to adrenal fatigue and exhaustion. This is becoming a common and underlying cause for many of the health challenges we face today.

Our adrenal glands play a critical role in our survival. Yes they make our stress hormone cortisol, which is catching a lot of attention because of their association with weight loss. But they are also intimately involved in stabilizing our blood sugar. Insulin Resistance and diabetes is increasing. Many of these problems are attributable to over-stimulation of our adrenal glands, which leads to adrenal burnout.

The adrenals also make our sex hormones. This is critical for both women and men, because if the body is constantly having to make stress hormones, it will have to steal progesterone, which in turn effects the balance of estrogen and testosterone. Is there any wonder why so many people are suffering from hot flashes, PMS, loss of libido and depression?

IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE TO THESE UNHEALTHFUL ENERGY DRINKS?

The answer is: YES!

Water...or better yet,  Kangen Water…. http://www.thewetterwater.com  – the truly amazing ionized alkaline WATER that hydrates to the cellular level.

It's time to say NO to Energy Drinks that are slowly destroying health.  Take a stand today against Junk Drinks.

What's in that Banana?

BANANAS!

After Reading this, you will NEVER look at a banana in the same way again!

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression:

According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel better.

PMS:

Forget the pills -- eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia:

High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure:

This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect way to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power:

200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex, England ) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation:

High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers:

One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system...

Heartburn:

Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness:

Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness

Mosquito bites:

Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves:

Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work?

Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers:

The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control:

Many other cultures see bananas as a 'cooling' fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD):

Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking:

Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6 and B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress:

Potassium is a vital mineral which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes:

According to research in 'The New England Journal of Medicine,' eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death from strokes by as much as 40%!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around.. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, 'A banana a day keeps the doctor away!'

Footnote:

If your roses are covered with Aphids, drape banana skins over the branches, it’s amazing, but in a day or less, they are GONE!

I've tried it, and I couldn't believe it, no more aphids, as long as I save my banana skins for the rose bushes!

Impressed? Well then, PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS!

Unzip a BANANA today!
